Early in the afternoon Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy with his wife Marina and their son Emanuele Filiberto will meet Cardinal Severino Poletto, who has organized for them a private exhibition of the Shroud (La Stampa Web, June 18, 2003).
Through the publication of the book “Shroud 2002. The conservative intervention” the complete scientific documentation of the restoration interventions on the Shroud in summer 2002 is offered, when the “patches” applied by the Poor Clare Nuns after the Chambéry fire of 1532 were removed, and the Shroud cloth was cleaned up of the impurities that, in the seams and under the patches, had accumulated in the last five centuries. The book, that is arriving in the bookshops in these days, is published by the Diocesan Institution for the Preservation of the Faith (Opera diocesana preservazione della fede, the publisher of the Turin archdiocese) and is signed by Mechthild Flury Lemberg, the international textile expert, who has prepared and carried out the latest conservation interventions after studying the Shroud cloth for more than a decade and carrying out the interventions of preparation to the 1998 and 2000 exhibitions. The volume is trilingual (German, English, Italian), so that the scholars from all over the world can be provided with the possibility of a direct access to the text (Avvenire, June 12, 2003, p. 17).
On March 26, 2003 was published the volume of Giulio Fanti and Emanuela Marinelli "LA SINDONE RINNOVATA - MISTERI E CERTEZZE" (The renewed Shroud - Mysteries and certainties), printed by Progetto Editoriale, Vigodarzere (PADUA - ITALY) - ISBN: 88-8245-066-X.. The work, composed by 265 pages with many colored illustrations, is the first book published after the intervention of Summer 2002 that radically transformed the precious Relic. The text comprises, over the history and the scientific results already acquired, the last news about the most recent researches that the two known authors have explained in a scientifically rigorous language but at the same time easily comprehensible language for all the readers.
