On November 25, 2009, Dr. Paolo Di Lazzaro, Italian Shroud researcher and Workshop Chairman, announced that the symposium “International Workshop on the Scientific Approach to the Acheiropoietos Images (IWSAI 2010)” would be held May 4 through 6, 2010, at the ENEA Research Centre in Frascati (Rome, Italy). On the website http://www.acheiropoietos.info/ all the information is available (http://ww.shroud.com/latebrak.htm, December 9, 2009).
Benedict XVI in Turin twelve years after John Paul II's visit - The Pope's presence at the Shroud exhibition next spring has been confirmed. (La Stampa, October 19, 2009 cronaca p. 53).
The controversy – A Revealed Mystery? After the umpteenth announcement, the Center of Sindonology director speaks out - “Make the Shroud again?” Try it (Bruno Barberis, Avvenire, October 9, 2009 Agorà p. 27).
Atheists, rationalists and bloodhounds of the paranormal in Abano – The “copy” of the Shroud realized by the chemist of the Pavia University Luigi Garlaschelli – an operation financed by the Uaar, the Union of the atheists and the agnostic rationalists – will be introduced in the conference of the Cicap, Italian Committee for the control of the affirmations on the paranormal, which is being held in Abano Terme from today to Sunday. Garlaschelli claims to have realized the artifact in few days with tools that could be available for a 14th century forger, thus excluding the idea that a miraculous event would have been at the origin of the mysterious cloth. The International Center of Sindonology director’s contribution we publish in this page will come out, instead, on La Voce del Popolo (The Voice of the People), weekly magazine of the diocese of Turin, on Sunday. Next year, from April 10 to May 23, the exhibition of the Shroud will be held in Turin. Benedict XVI has expressed his intention to go and pray in front of one of the most worshiped images of the Christianity. (Avvenire, October 9, 2009 Agorà p. 27).
In the spring of 2010, just ten years after the Exposition in the jubilee year, the Holy Shroud will once again be on display in the Cathedral of Turin (Italy). The official and final date of the Exposition is from 10 April to 23 May 2010 (from Saturday of Holy Week to Sunday of Pentecost). The bookings to see the Shroud begin via internet (http://www.sindone.org) next October and through the “call centre” at the beginning of January. (Sindone News n. 48, March-May 2009).
Shroud, Exhibition 2010: defined the pilgrims’ route - The definitive “yes” will come after the controls of the competent commissions for the security, but since today it is widely defined the route that the pilgrims will walk along in order to reach the Turin Cathedral during the Exhibition of the Shroud that will begin on April 10, 2010. The organizing Committee has approved the hypothesis that provides that the Cathedral can be reached through the Low Royal Gardens and the New Wing of the Royal Palace. At the Royal Gardens the welcome and reservations control points will be found. Then the pilgrims will enter the “infernotti” (low levels of the basement) of the New Wing of the Royal Palace, using the premises that have recently accommodated the exhibition on China, in order to reach the area of the Roman Theatre, to go up again to the large square of the Cathedral bell tower (where the pavilion of the “prelettura”, the explanation, will be realized) and finally enter the Cathedral. Leaving the Cathedral on Chiablese Palace side, pilgrims will be able to go towards the Penitentiary Chapel, that will be either in the Chiablese Palace premises or in Saint Lawrence church. The route will have only one entry and, as in 1998 and 2000, you will need a reservation ticket to go in. (ANSA, January 16, 2009).
