On December 23, 1997 at 7 p.m. the first Mass inside the Turin Cathedral
since the fire night on April 11, 1997, after 256 days of wait, was celebrated.
The ceremony was officiated by the parish priest Father Francesco Cavallo
and however was not the official restitution of the Cathedral to the city,
foreseen around the middle January. (La Stampa, December 24,

On December 19, 1997 at 8:30 p.m. it was placed a steel shield under the
arch that divides the Shroud Chapel from the Cathedral, to allow the soundproofing
of the Chapel during the Exhibition. It's 15 meters high and weighs about

A fire developed in the Savoy Castle in Chambéry on November 1,
1997 evening. No damage to the Sainte-Chapelle that kept the Shroud
